I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself. I am the sole owner/operator of Barrett Guitar Works Inc (2007). I am fully insured for your peace of mind while leaving your instruments in my care, and I have a great security team, Abby and Zeppelin, our family dogs.

I am a guitarist/singer and played professionally in my earlier years. I have always had a passion for music and at the age of 15 I began learning to play guitar. By the time I was 17, I was playing in garage/basement bands. At 18, I was playing full time in a 10 piece orchestra called Track, with David James, John Alphonse, Don Fairfax and Wayne Baker. After two years, the group disbanded as most of the musicians left for Humber University. For the next three years I played in bar bands across the Atlantic Provinces. I then enrolled in the Armed Forces and became a meteorologist with Air operations for four years. I left the Air Force to go to college, where I received my Architectural Drafting diploma. I spent the next 24 years at Harris Rebar Inc until disabilities prevented me from continuing that career.
While undergoing rehabilitation, I started apprenticing for repairing and restoring stringed instruments under my mentor and now very close friend Harland Suttis of Suttis Guitar Technologies. I have studied with Harland for six years to date and am continuing our affiliation and friendship. My expertise in stringed instrument repair is quite extensive, some of which I will summarize below:
Factory spec setups of all electric and acoustic guitars, mandolins and banjo’s
Custom bridges, bone nuts and compensated saddles
Electronic installations, new and updating existing
Fret dresses and fret replacements
Fret board levelling, neck straightening and neck resets
I also build custom acoustic and electric guitars, do restoration work to vintage instruments and much more. While I still play, it has now become about the enjoyment of music and not the business of music. Please do not hesitate to discuss any concerns and questions about your stringed instruments with me. I will be very pleased to help.
